Buried Alive

Last Tuesday we successfully finished up aeration of our putting greens! The process went smooth and I am really happy with the end product!  We tweaked a few things and it payed off.  The greens are already smoother than they have been in the past events.  We also tried out a core harvester to help speed up cleanup time.  This machine has a rotating broom and a catch container similar to a vacuum.  It was pulled behind a 4wd utility vehicle.  The process cut our labor and time in half!

Here is a time lapse video of it in action!

A few days later we buried the putting greens in sand!  There are multiple reasons for this.  It helps firm up the surface and reduce thatch, but the most important reason is to fill all the new holes with sand eliminating pitting.  If done right you end up with a flat sand surface that makes for a “true” surface.  We achieved that then the storms Friday night disrupted the surface some.  We will hit them with more sand next week!  More rolling and initiating mowing is scheduled next week too!  Putting greens will be healed in about two weeks if weather cooperates.
