Seventeen Hours Later

The fall putting green aerification process is complete!  After seventeen scorching labor hours all 19 greens have been punched, cleared, filled, rolled and cleaned! An already strenuous task was multiplied with summer heat.  The maintenance crew really went above and beyond to put in the work to complete this important process.

The process started with topdressing the greens before Aeration.  This is done prior because once the greens are punched they are soft and the topdressing machine would leave tire ruts from weight of machine filled with sand.

After pulling cores, the cores were cleaned off the surface and removed from the green surround.  Next we blew the leftover debris off the surface and used our sand shark contraption to clean up the aerification holes.  This works great, opening up closed off holes from the clearing process.  The open holes allow for the fresh topdressing sand to be brushed into them effectively.

Once all the holes were filled with sand, the process was finished by rolling the greens and running irrigation to start recovery.

Rolling of greens will continue daily through the end of the week and they will be healed in about 3 weeks.
