Earth, Air and Water (No Fire Please)

After a long holiday weekend and some extended dry conditions the greens were a little tired.  We hit the reset button by venting the earth(greens) to allow for air exchange and water infiltration.  A wetting agent was applied before the venting process.  This will help rehydrate isolated areas on greens that caught fire over the holidays.  Greens were rolled after the venting process to ensure a quality putting surface.

Greens will be a little softer for next couple days but is a small price to pay to keep them healthy during summer months.

Steve Luebbers, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, walks pass after pass, green after green, spanning over 15 miles on foot this morning.

Each hole from venting travels about 3 inches into the ground leaving a chamber for air and water.
